This is a poor decision that is NOT supported by the people living in these areas. Farm lands are needed so we remain as self sufficient as possible - more self sufficient than we were in the pandemic in fact. We do not need 1.5 million more families needing to commute in the GTA, go to school in the GTA or needing medical, police or other emergency services in the GTA. As the government weakens the supports and adds more people we are going to see additional issues of violence, frustrations and sprawl complications. I’m not sure why the people can see this and the government seems blind to it! Or, is it pad the pockets of your friends while in office and who cares (since it’ll be a different government) when the issues arise? These lands are supposed to be and remain protected. Not to be sold off in the whim of someone while their butt temporarily graces a seat of power over the province. Many other areas of Ontario could become bigger, more vibrant cities with these investments plus more… do what’s best for all in the GTA and encourage growth elsewhere that can be supported longer term without the pains and irreversible damage proposed in this short sighted money maker idea.
Besides with these new builds won’t they also be immuned to rent caps? Making them just more of the same unaffordable rental units currently available? Doug has done enough damage to the housing available currently. Don’t make things worse.
