Doug Ford’s attack on the Greenbelt is despicable. This land is environmentally sensitive and was protected for future generations of Ontarians and native plant and animal species. This is important habitat, but also important for management of flood waters and local farming/food security. Not only did Doug Ford go back on a promise to “leave the Greenbelt untouched”, he obviously tipped off his developer friends who bought up the land before zoning changes. I can’t believe that this is possibly going to move forward. This government has again and again tried to overstep legal and ethical boundaries. Let’s also not pretend that this new housing would in any way help Ontario’s housing crisis. The land will probably become host to mega-mansions, and people struggling for affordable housing will continue to do so. The Greenbelt MUST be protected. Hopefully Doug Ford and his government will retract this decision that is completely against public interest. However, it is likely that it will take more than citizen opinions to stop this guy.
