I want to be clear that I do not support the amendments to the Greenbelt. We would be destroying the environment and farmland as a solution for the housing crisis for which it would not fix. We need to preserve this land, the environment for future generations and for us. To ensure we can be self-sustainable by producing our own food. If COVID has taught us anything it would be how fragile the supply chain is and how important it is for us to be able to provide the basics locally. These amendments will have negative impact and a step backward in trying to minimize the damage of climate change. We do not need a housing sprawl in rural areas that would rely on more cars. We need better city planning to address the housing issues, better transportation, denser and more walkable communities. Not single family homes. And ultimately it is the developers who profit from these amendments, not the People. We need to protect the environment as best we can and fight climate change the best we can and prepare for the consequences as best we can. Please protect and preserve the Greenbelt.
