This policy is criminal (evidence of collusion between the government, land speculators and developers). It is abhorrent to destroy valuable agricultural lands when southern Ontario is NOT food secure and depends on imports. It also underscores a complete disrespect for water and all the ecosystems that are dependent on it (humans included). Bill 23 flagrantly disregards the climate crisis we are in and continues to support the status quo (the construction industry contributes 30% to emissions annually). This policy is using language to hide the for profit interests of people who built subpar buildings. None of the developers set to build have shown any interest in sustainable building models, infrastructure upgrades, community benefit programs, renewable and or off-grid provisions. Furthermore, there is no evidence or studies that shows increasing the supply of luxury homes (none of the homes produced by the developers who own property listed will be affordable units or geared to income housing) far from transit and employment center's.
