1. The greenbelt was protected for a reason. It’s awful that it could be reduced and it deeply concerns me with respect to the environment and biodiversity.
2. This is the worst kind of political decision. It pretends to address a problem while completely ignoring the problem itself. This will not fix the housing problem and good governance should be looking at Europe’s housing density solutions instead of urban sprawl. If there was any evidence urban sprawl worked, I wouldn’t mind, but there isn’t. And there is ample evidence that higher density closer to city works.
3. There is obvious corruption. The timing of land purchases for somewhere that wasn’t supposed to be developed is sickening. This is Canada. This blatant level of back room dealing shouldn’t happen in robust democracies. This is third-world level corruption. It is outrageous not only that it happened but that it was so obvious. It lowers the level of public trust. I have never felt this ungrounded in my country for corruption reasons before.
4. Aside from the blatant corruption of information being passed to parties to give unfair advantage, Doug Ford is benefiting directly from donations from these parties making the profit. This is so wrong it hurts to see it happening in Ontario.
