Thank you for being concerned about the dearth of housing in Ontario. It is a significant problem that must be addressed.

I cannot agree more that more housing is needed, and fast. As a person who has been absorbing information from all sides of this issue, and as a scientist that is programmed to only make unbiased decisions based on facts and detailed analysis of a situation, I cannot support any legislation that would build houses on any of the existing land allocated as Green Belt lands. It would be soundly unscientific, definitely uneconomical and a very poor move politically, for a myriad of reasons.

As this is the Environmental registry I will only speak to the science. "Science" in respect to building on the Greenbelt would encompass ecology, biology, limnology, natural resource management, climate science, and human health, physical and mental. The breath and depth of the potential effect on these areas that would come from this type of development is immense. It is too overwhelming immense to allow a provincial government to pass a bill that would affect all these areas without great and meaningful consideration of the negative impacts.

You will not find a scientific expert out there that does not know that the impacts of more development on the Greenbelt can only have detrimental effects on our ecology, and all the related systems.

There are many other better locations to build houses. Science and common sense dictate that Greenbelt lands, that were put under protection for valid scientific reasons, should not be re-designated as building site for housing. New residences should be put on existing lands already within towns and cities.

I will not go into the science as you already have all the detail you need.

Just please listen to the science you have been presented with.

Don't allow building on existing Greenbelt. To leave it alone is simple. It is smart.

Thank you.
