I do not support this proposal.
Developing the green belt is not a wise solution to the housing crisis. It’s merely a ploy to put money in the pockets of developers. It will do very little to help first time home buyers. A better solution is to put money towards our public transportation systems and develop better housing near these transportation hubs.
Removing farmland will destroy our food security by reducing our ability to grow fresh local food.
Removing wetlands will cause harm to our ecological system. Wetlands provide flood protection, they naturally remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and they provide habitat for many at risk species.
It’s preposterous to take a step backwards in the climate crisis to build housing in a sensitive and necessary area when there are many other options for housing development.
