The main argument for these proposed changes to the greenbelt is that we need to support a growing population. No doubt that a growing population requires an increased supply of housing. It also requires an increased supply of food. The majority of the areas proposed for removal are farmlands. They provide a supply of local food to the growing Golden Horseshoe area. This, along with controlling urban sprawl where quite literally the entire point of conserving the Greenbelt. I’m sure we can build housing elsewhere in this vast province and build up other municipalities with the goal of creating options outside of the Golden Horseshoe for our growing population.
