This bill is something I has captured my interest. I am the much touted rarity in Canadian politics— a citizen who had voted for all three major parties in my life and who is open to the idea of voting for each of them in the future.

Of the utmost importance to me is good governance and this bill appears to fail that test abysmally, to a degree that I will vote and activate based on the decisions made here.

To put in the crack of the legal authority of the green belt for a marginal benefit to the goal of building more houses (50,000 vs 1.5 million) does not seem to me to be good judgement, and many independent bodies have remarked that land is not the constraining factor to building more houses.

Blowing a hole in municipal finances or taking building codes out at the knees does not show good judgement, as does blocking municipalities like Hamilton from increasing density to avoid sprawl, and the fact that all these decisions land on the side of the developers and against the well-being of Ontario as a whole hints at either corruption or incompetence. All of the explanations the government has made to support their decisions has not been sufficient to explain their reasoning, and media from across the aisle have pointed their deficiencies out.

I agree with the goal of increasing density and housing in Ontario. I will support that ambition done thoughtfully and competently. The plan so far put forward has not met that low bar and so I am articulating my opposition to it and will set aside a portion of my time as a citizen to prevent these plans from becoming a reality.

This is a crucial governance issue for me.
