I vigorously oppose the removal from the Greenbelt of 15 areas of land totalling over 7000 acres. This is a broken promise not to touch the Greenbelt system. The Government’s Housing Affordability Task Force found there are plenty of places to build homes without destroying the Greenbelt.
The recent article in the Globe and Mail (“Sales of protected lands now set to be carved up raise questions”, Nov. 28, 2022: A6) is one among many news articles that highlight some disturbing things about what the government is doing and how.
Destruction of farmland that we rely on for food and damage to diverse and delicate ecosystems that provide important habitats for plants and animals, for the sake of development that is vulnerable to flooding and housing that contributes to sprawl rather than intensification, is reckless and ethically unacceptable.
