The Greenbelt belongs to all Ontarians, and the Ford government does not have a mandate to develop these lands. The government's own taskforce stated very clearly that there is enough land already available for development, and that the Greenbelt and our farmland, wetlands, and natural areas need protection!
These are lands that are meant to be preserved for future generations, not property for sale. This is invaluable land, with irreplaceable - irreplaceable!!! we are already paving over 319 acres every day? - farmland and natural areas, offering important wildlife habitat, not to mention important carbon sinks and natural water filtration resources.
Please do the right thing. Think of our future generations. Housing is vital yes, but should go where it is best suited - in existing settlement areas, in land already slated for development.
Swapping this land for land elsewhere is a false solution, leaving no land safe when these boundaries are shown to be porous and open to those developers with the best connections. Proceeding with opening this land will open the floodgates to development pressures throughout the region.
You can do better. Listen to the public outcry, and follow the sage advice of your own Housing Affordability Task force. LEAVE THE GREENBELT ALONE.
