I am strongly opposed to the Bill 23 amendments. All around us, nature is at a tipping point. The climate is changing faster than we expected, species are endangered and going extinct at unprecedented rates, drought is affecting our food supply chain. We need these wetlands to filter our water, to control floods, to provide homes to many species. We need these wetlands and farms for the future of our children. It is simply not valid to eliminate these important spaces and designate some other area as a replacement. Any hydrogeologist will tell you that water collects where it does for a reason. You can't just redesignate a space for it to flow without incurring flood risk. You can't expect that the species that call one area home will successfully propagate or settle in another.
Now we also hear that land developers preemptively bought Green Belt lands at lower prices before this Bill came out. Tip off for government friends perhaps.
Bill 23 amendments are definitely not the right plan for the majority of our citizens. Please walk them back.
