I do not agree with the proposed legislation to convert Greenbelt into housing. The government should focus on intensification of density and unused or underutilizes space in existing urban/developed areas. Using the greenbelt will result in more greenhouse emissions from car transportation.
The alternative approach of better developing existing urban land will help drive more efficient use of transit.
Also, developing urban areas instead of the greenbelt will protect the limited greenbelt areas which are critical as both green / natural space and also for agricultural purposes. Local agriculture is important to reduce greenhouse emissions from transportation. Lastly, developer fees should not be reduced. This downloads infrastructure costs onto taxpayers.
