I do not agree with the proposal to bypass the City of Toronto’s Green Standard in constructing new development. The Green Standard contains valuable, proactive measures to green the City and reduce impacts on the natural environment and public health. It would be a huge step backwards to disregard these measures and it would set a dangerous precedent – there will always be a demand to build more housing fast. When is the right time to develop in a way that respects the natural environment and the health of the public? The time is now and we must uphold the existing green measures and continue to add green measures over time. This is vital to achieving a City with air, water and land that support the health of its residents.
