I do not support the cancellation of the Climate Change Act and do not support abandoning the Cap and Trade tax. Cancelling it is short-sighted and we in Ontario need this Program.
In 2018 the program generated 2 Billion dollars from polluters to help with so many forward thinking projects which have a return on investment and benefit people directly.
I would like to see the funds generated by the Carbon Tax go to the following:
* Provide rebates to home owners who retrofit their homes with greater energy efficiency in terms of appliances, and improving heat loss in the winter and cooling in the summer.
*Retrofit schools in Ontario with air conditioning for the warming spring and fall weather so that students can learn in these months comfortably.
*Provide incentives to entrepreneurs and companies who develop and manufacture green transportation such as electric cars, trains and people moving vehicles that are not polluting the air.
*Help factories reduce the air pollutants they produce and improve soil quality to help farmers and the very important agriculture sector.
The Ontario Government must invest in environment saving technologies and research as its top priority with an urgency never seen before. We can not afford to play politics against what is so fundamental to our lives, air, water, and food. The lives of our families and the next generation are such a great responsibility. I believe young children get this - pay a few cents on a litre of gas now to help pay for programs that clean up our environment and make the air cleaner to breathe and live longer. I sincerely hope the elected Government does not scrap the very important Climate Change and Cap and Trade program. Please do not jeopardize our future on this planet.
