Bill 4, Cap and Trade Cancellation Act 2018 is an ENORMOUS STEP BACKWARDS.
If the Ontario government is going to repeal the Climate Change Mitigation and Low-carbon Economy Act, 2016, it should be required to name the new act THE CLIMATE CHANGE PROMOTION AND HIGH-CARBON ECONOMY ACT. Or, to make it even clearer: THE-FLOOD-HEATWAVE-FOREST-FIRE-BEACH-CLOSURE-DEATH-TO-FRESHWATER-FISHERIES-PROMOTION ACT.
Just when some political leaders were finally starting to acknowledge the climate crisis that scientists have been warning us about for 40 years, the current Ontario Government wants us all to shove our heads back into the sand.
This summer should have been a call to action for our provincial leaders. However, rather than investing their time and resources into finding ways to mitigate the causes and effects of the most serious crisis facing our province, country and planet, they chose instead to focus on ways to placate and bamboozle Ontarians (i.e. buck-a-beer and propaganda posing as news). So insulting and so irresponsible.
The Climate Change Mitigation and Low-carbon Economy Act, 2016 must not be repealed. I support a tax on carbon, investment in sustainable non-carbon-emitting technologies, the protection and enhancement of natural systems that mitigate the effects of climate change (e.g. wetlands and waterways, forests), and the implementation of incentives to industries, small businesses and citizens to reduce their carbon footprints through every means possible.
