Any future carbon capture…

Comment

Any future carbon capture technology in the province should not be allowed to be used to attempt to offsets emissions from any gas fired power plants - we need to be moving away from gas fired power for electricity, towards renewable sources such as solar, wind, hydro, geothermal for meeting our electricity needs, and allowing gas fired power plants to use carbon capture and storage technology will only prolong the use of of a fossil fuel such as natural gas in generating our electricity, which we cannot afford to do for both environmental and economic reasons.

Also, in order to meet the province's growing electricity capacity needs, the government should be investing in building more renewable energy infrastructure in order to meet these needs (NOT fossil fuel i.e. natural gas infrastructure, which would only serve to undermine the Ontario's relatively clean electricity grid, and make it that much more difficult to get to a zero emissions grid) - renewable energy is better for the environment which makes it better for people as well, much of the infrastructure for it can be built faster and become operational more quickly than fossil fuel infrastructure, and renewables are now the cheapest forms with which to generate power that can be used for meeting our electricity needs, so again, it also makes the most economic sense. And as the plenty of the public in this province is very much aware of these facts, it would also make political sense for this government to invest in renewables and not allow fossil fuel interests to drive their economic or energy policies.
