Cancelling the Cap and Trade bill without a replacement is premature. The climate science is very clear - we have an ever-shorter window of opportunity to take comprehensive action. Cap and trade was working to reduce carbon output. I'm open to other models of carbon reduction, but eliminating cap and trade before there is a replacement is short-sighted and dangerous.

Develop an alternative, by all means. But implement that alternative, and THEN replace cap and trade.

My wife and I are planning to have our first kid next year. I am keenly aware of the impending climate disaster. I don't merely expect Canada to do our part - I expect us to be global leaders. Most importantly, I expect us to give our children a world that is better than we found it. Climate change is fast becoming my single-issue vote. History - or what remains of it - will judge us harshly if we fail to provide not just "adequate" solutions, but the kind of bold leadership that is Canada at its best.

I'm counting on our government to do that. It is absolutely shameful to do anything less.
