It distresses me that our newly elected leaders are not taking climate change more seriously in their decision making. I feel we might not be able to prevent it any more, but there are definitely steps we can take to mitigate the impacts.
On the subject of cap and trade, while many large industrial polluters were exempted and that is a problem, I am very willing to pay a little extra for some of my own carbon footprint - I feel this is entirely justified by the way the funds are returned to carbon-friendlier projects like support for bicycle infrastructure, public transport and building retrofitting.
It's a good way to help steer more virtuous behaviours.
This doesn't have to be negative. I believe if we confront climate change today in a constructive way, we can make changes that are not unaffordable and which don't negatively impact our quality of living.
