The amount of tropical storms is increasing and they are more and more powerful. The droughts and forest fires in the west of North America and the floods and ice storms in the east part are more and more severe and more and more expensive. At this rate, any money we (more like the owners of heavy industry and oil and gas companies) are saving by using fossil fuels instead of renewable energy sources is going to be dwarfed by the amount we have to pay to mitigate the damage of the worsening weather conditions. And that does not even consider human suffering, huge amounts of unique species that if nothing else are valuable research material for bettering human life, and islands and historical locations that will cease to exist. Cap and trade is not perfect, but it makes no sense to repeal it and replace it with absolutely nothing, dooming our descendants to a much worse existence for a slightly easier existence today.
