Repeated reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) have identified carbon pricing as an essential mechanism required to curb carbon emissions. The IPCC has also been increasingly sounding the alarm on the potential effects of climate change, and in their most recent report, Global Warming of 1.5°C, stated that "pathways limiting global warming to 1.5°C with no or limited overshoot would require rapid and far-reaching transitions in energy, land, urban and infrastructure (including transport and buildings), and industrial systems." Ontario's participation in a joint carbon market with Quebec and California made it a leader in this transition. Passing Bill 4 and cancelling cap-and-trade will make us a laggard.

As a parent, I am concerned about the world that we will leave our children. We are aware of the effects that our dependence on fossil fuels is having on the climate at large, we are increasingly noting the effects in our day-to-day lives, yet we lack the resolve take real concrete steps to combat the problem. Having a carbon pricing system is a key step, and it must be maintained.
