As a student and a young person, Ontario's environment is my future. Without clean air, water, soil, how will future generations prosper like those have done in the past. I run everyday down the Rideau canal since moving from Burlington for school. Everyday I have to review the air quality to decide whether I can run at my preferred time. Imagine in 10 years, or 20 years in polluters can emit without penalty. Is the cap and trade program perfect? No. Can it be improved, yes. But it's abolishment without a viable replacement is not good for today's youth or children to come. Cancelling the program will not make it efficient for my children in 30 years! Climate change will actually raise the cost of living.
I emplore the government to listen to our land, air, water and most importantly, the 60% of voters who did not vote for them and hold consultations on the program.
If the recent IPCC report isn't enough to convince the government, then they should read it again. The UN gives us 80 years. Can Ontario lead instead of falling back into the shadows?
