The latest IPCC report, created by hundreds of scientists from across the world, was recently released. This report shows definitively that disastrous warming of 1.5 C above pre-industrial levels will occur as early as 2030. This will have significant catastrophic effects, including mass migration due to regions of the earth becoming inhospitable and millions of deaths worldwide. Thankfully, we know a way to circumvent this dire outcome: carbon taxation. This idea is literally Nobel prize-winning! The two economists who won the prize this year did so by showing that the transition to a green economy will create jobs and generate wealth, all the while protecting us from a warming Earth. Integral to their work is the idea that pricing carbon emissions will be an essential part of the transition to this kind of economy.

Carbon taxation makes sense. It can create wealth and prosperity; we have already seen this with the cap-and-trade system. Though it was short-lived, it brought in significant revenue for the province. I urge you as a citizen of this province and as someone who still has decades of life left to continue with the cap-and-trade system. Be a part of the solution, don't continue with the dangerous status quo.
