Canada was one of 195 countries that had agreed to the Paris Agreement’s commitment to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees. With this plan in mind, the Wynn government had drafted the Cap and Trade Program to not on limit carbon emissions but to award businesses for their part in saving the planet.
Does the Ford government not WANT to save the planet? Do they not LIVE on the same planet?
The Cap and Trade Program is based on extensive scientific research that only taxes 20$ per tone starting next January and 50$ in 2022. Not only will this encourage corporations to devise business plans that are better for the environment, but the money raised from these taxes will go towards school refurbishment and home energy rebates WHICH WOULD BENEFIT THE CITIZENS OF ONTARIO.
Since 2016, the program helped raid $2.87 billion in revenue for the province by selling credits to the company. The Ford government claims that they only have to pay $5 million dollars in reimbursement to these corporations but the actual number is $500 million. This money will be coming OUT OF YOUR POCKETS for an avoidable debt. This also opens up the government to lawsuits, which will also come from tax money, and I do not want the money utilized that way.
