Ontario's Cap and Trade Program, while far from perfect, should not be repealed without appropriate replacement measures. We have a responsibility to address the serious consequences of climate change and this was a positive first step.
A further mistake is this government's needless effort to stop the federal government from exercising its right to impose a federal price on carbon on the provinces. This is a lawsuit that most constitutional experts agree, the deliquent provinces will likely lose. Instead of wasting Ontario taxpayers money on this frivilous lawsuit, why not invest it to strengthen Ontario's committment to create a Made in Ontario solution that will work to meet our greenhouse gas emission targets. That would demonstrate the kind of leadership Canadians expect from its leading province.
Our children and grandchildren deserve better. If we care about their future, we will act now; not when it is too late.
This government's challenge is simple: come up with a better plan and leave this one in place until you do.
