Our poor, poor planet is much too close to her tipping point for us to be enacting policies that will only serve to push her over the edge. We must preserve whatever precious little pristine wilderness remaining and re-wild much of that stolen from the animal nations. Since we've put a man on the moon, the human population has more than doubled while that of the wild animals has more than halved. The survivors need protection and have the right to live and raise their families in peace. The cruel culling of cormorants is not based in science. They are scapegoats for humans, the most invasive of species, destroying and degrading habitats and "managing" wildlife by manipulating numbers to satisfy the fun-with-a-gun crowd. Mother nature has a wonderful way of healing herself if we only give her a chance. Any intervention must adhere to the principles of peaceful coexistence and compassionate conservation. Killing should not be the default.
