Using fish or any edible bait, live or dead, encourages fish and non target animals to swallow hooks, causing great suffering, and makes it harder to release non target animals. Also, how are the fish killed for bait? Are they euthanized via anaesthetic, are they killed in a cruel or violent way, or are they simply stuck on a hook still alive? The use of live bait should be banned for humane reasons. Ideally, any fish bait, alive or dead, should be banned, or at least humane regulated and restricted, on humane grounds.
