I am both outraged and aghast at this regressive Cap and Trade Cancellation Act, 2018 being proposed without proper consultation or a plan to fight climate change to replace it. As well, I feel very sorry for all the people who are watching you politicize the issue of climate change for your own short term gains while risking all our futures. Shame on you.

As I type hurricane Michael is destroying property and lives as one of the strongest storms to ever slam into the US mainland.

The UN IPCC report on climate change has just been released and states that "climate change continues to move faster than our efforts to address it". The time is now very short to act responsibly, and help reduce the ever increasing destructive powers of our changing climate causing destructive storms, droughts and wildfires.

We must not keep allowing pollution to be dumped into our atmosphere without cost to the polluters. The existing Climate Change Mitigation and Low-carbon Economy Act, 2016 was making polluters pay and using the billions of dollars gained to fight climate change and help the people of ON to do so too.

If your government moves forward with the Cap and Trade Cancellation Act, 2018 without a clear plan on fighting climate change to replace it then in my opinion this is unconscionable and possibly criminal in the face of all the scientific evidence. You will be hurting "the people", the very ones you claim to be looking out for. And in particular you will be hurting our young people who you will be sentencing to a grim future where ferociously destructive storms such as Michael and worse ones will become the norm. Nobody wins in that world.

The sobering facts and the dangers have never been clearer. We all need to fight climate change including Ontario who has been a leader in it. So my recommendation is put a good climate change fighting plan together, seek consultation on it as required in the Ontario Environmental Bill of Rights and then replace the existing legislation with that new plan. Don't leave Ontario with no plan to fight climate change. There is absolutely no excuse for being so reckless with all our futures.
