It looks like the Ford government compiled a list of projects that are considered “minor” and do not require environmental evaluation. It seems very few projects that occur in provincial parks will be subject to environmental review. Additionally, it appears as though any projects not listed as minor will be sent to the politically appointed minister of environment, conservation and parks to determine whether review is necessary.
As if all that were not negative enough for environmental protection, what is really shocking to me is that what appears to be the current environmental assessment policy is 81 pages long and outlines a pretty comprehensive review process for certain projects. But the proposed new policy intended to replace it is only 15 pages long. We need to be protecting our beautiful parks, not strip protection.
Thus, my advice is to reconsider. Once lost, natural reserves will be lost for generations.
