The two Quarries combined at it’s maximum size according to Hastings county GIS is approximately 325,000 square meters.
The average rainfall for Belleville is 983mm per year
If one mm of rain on a square meter delivers one litre of water then 983mm x 1 litre x 325,000 square meters = 319, 475,000 litres/ year rainfall in the quarry.
One day would be 319,475,000 divided by 365 days a year = 875,273 Litres per day average.(22% of proposed)
This calculation does not include evaporation.
Why is 4,045,600 litres/ day 365 days a year necessary ? Please keep in mind that the local wells in the area of the quarry are 1/2 the depth of the bottom of the quarry . Allowing the proposed water taking of 4,045,600 litres/ day on a category 3 permit will create an unnecessary risk of unacceptable environmental impacts on the surrounding water usage ( home owner’s & livestock farmers)
Please keep in mind that there is no alternate source of water in this community ( no municipal water)
