To Whom It May Concern,
We live in Melrose, in the Township of Tyendinaga, County of Hastings. Our property is approximately one mile from Longs Quarry which is owned by C H Demill. Our families have lived in beautiful Tyendinaga for 4 generations. We, like most of the people that live in Tyendinaga, have grave concerns about the increasing depth of the quarry and what effect it will have on the quality and quantity of our water supply.
Mr. Demill states that he would like to pump 4 million litres of water a day for 365 days a year for 10 years for dust control ??????????? For DUST CONTROL. Could it be that the flow of water into this deep quarry is so strong that it is causing a problem for Mr. Demill. This water that they want to pump from the quarry comes from the water table from miles around. Our well is 30 ft deep. The quarry is deeper than our well. How long will it be until our wells first become contaminated and then go dry?
Our provincial government cares less and less about the air we breathe, the water we drink and the destruction of our farm land. The government has weakened our environmental agencies and our conservation authorities to make it easier for companies like C H Demill expand and operate to the detriment of members of the community.
We strongly oppose this proposal and request the the Environmental Registry reject this proposal.
