We reside in the Port Weller…

We reside in the Port Weller East neighbourhood in close proximity to the Ssonix site. The events of January 12, 2023 will be forever etched in our memory - from the explosion that woke us up early that morning, to the chaotic evacuation and then the toxic fumes and liquids that permeated our neighbourhood well after that date.
Now to hear that Ssonix is planning to rebuild and eventually resume full operations of its waste disposal site is outrageous when an employee lost his life, the company and its directors are facing a total of 84 charges laid by St. Catharines Fire Services and clean up of the site is still ongoing—the cost of which is largely being paid for by the taxpayer.
The company has a poor track record and is not a good corporate citizen. We abhor the idea of this company setting up business as usual on Keefer Road. Ssonix Products 2010 Inc. should be barred from ever again operating within in the hazardous waste disposal industry.
