Oh my God! You must have no idea what the flowering rush situation in Minaki is like! My family has owned an island in the Winnipeg River near Minaki for 63 years, and now we have outcroppings of flowering rush here and there all along our shore. Luckily, our dock is in deep water so we can still get our boat in and out of its slip. But a short distance away several cottages are located in a shallow bay, and their docks are encased in flowering rush. I bet the area of the flowering rush is two to three acres. There is no way they can get a boat in and out of this bay.
Flowering rush cannot just be restricted. It must be prohibited. Ontario needs to develop a plan to deal with this very serious infestation. The future of cottagers visiting their summer homes, and resorts bringing in visitors to northwest Ontario to fish and enjoy the beauty of the area, is in jeopardy. Things get worse each year, and something needs to be down now. I have never seen anything like this.
