I am a seasonal resident at our cottage on Gun Lake in Minaki, Ontario. We had Flowering Rush appear out of nowhere in our secluded bay last year, and have been taking measures to keep it at bay since then. It is a never-ending job. But, we have had nothing like other parts of our waterway, in particular Little Sand Lake. Several bays and channels have been inundated, some are impassable by boat. If left unchecked, this species poses a definite threat to the area’s economy due to the damage to the fishery, which is the mainstay of tourism. Flowering Rush must be prohibited, not just restricted.
