We are concerned that Flowering Rush is not considered a ‘prohibitive ‘ species in North Western Ontario, Winnipeg River area & Minaki area.
We have been residents for the past 20 years in this area. Up until approximately the last 5 years we were not even aware of Flowering Rush.
In the last 3-5 years it had exploded in its presence in our area, on our waterways & on our properties.
Up until 5 years ago we didn’t really know it existed.
Now it is on our waterfront , with no clear recommendation of how to get rid of it. We know you’re not supposed to pull it out but it keeps spreading!! Everywhere we boat we see it clogging up docks, personal property & waterways.
We are in Pistol Lake & we can see it encroaching on both sides of our boating channel.
We see the effect on our eco system , personal & private property & on the fishing & wildlife in the area.
We implore you to Please address this problem immediately before it reaches the tipping point & gets totally out of control.
Sincerely, Karen & Murray MacHutchon & family
