Noted your intention to classify Flowering Rush ("FR") as Restricted not Prohibited. We have a seasonal residence at Minaki Ontario on the Winnipeg River. FR has an extensive presence along Shorelines, Channels and Bays on the River from Kenora to the WhiteDog Dam - especially from Minaki to the Dam. It is shocking how quickly it has become established and spread.
I am very concerned that this invasive species has and will continue to have a significant impact on fish habitat and shoreline nesting habitat. It is making beaches that have been used for decades, if not centuries, virtually unusable. It has seriously impacted access to and the use of seasonal residences and undoubtedly will impact fishing lodges and other facets of tourism as it continues to take hold and spread.
FR is a serious problem and I urge you to come and see for yourself the presence of FR and its deleterious impact on the Winnipeg River. The Ontario Government should be doing much much more to address this invasive species and it definitely should be classified as a Prohibited species.
