Imagine a Canada without maple syrup? We may lose that most Canadian of icons, if we do not put a halt to climate change. This is just one of the costs if we fail to prevent climate change. Global warming will wreak havoc with our economy, our environment, the lives of our children and grandchildren. We need to act now to fulfill our responsibility to future generations and our international commitments by repealing the Cap and Trade Cancellation Act and upholding the Climate Change Mitigation and Low-carbon Economy Act.
There is a misunderstanding that environmental measures are bad for the economy. On the contrary, there are many jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities to be had in environmentally responsible industry, and all the small businesses and trades that support it. It is climate change that is a risk to the economy. Especially in a country such as Canada where agriculture and natural resources are so important.
When your grandchildren ask you, "what is that picture on the Canadian flag?" do you want to have to explain that there used to be something called maple syrup, that Canadians and Indigenous peoples harvested every spring for hundreds of years, and that you could have done something to save it?
