I am strongly opposed to the changes being put forward to the water taking activities governed by the Ontario Water Resources Act. The public must be allowed to comment on individual water taking projects as any water taking will affect the neighbouring properties and wetlands. There must be an environmental impact study done on each individual site since different sites will have different impacts. These are not one-size-fits-all situations. The provincial government needs to restore Conservation Authorities as stakeholders in the consideration and granting of permissions for water taking in any area.
Allowing industries to monitor and regulate themselves is a fools game and will put the health of the environment and people of Ontario at risk. Do not water down regulations in Ontario.
