Leadership maintains that they do not deny the dangers climate change presents, just that they do not agree with the provinces Cap & Trade system. As a constituent who is worried about what the future might look like if we do not take tangible and significant steps to curb emissions, why should I accept a full repeal of this act with no alternative presented?
I find it unacceptable and grossly irresponsible that we could take such significant action without at least a framework of what a "better" solution might be. Hard not to see this a combination of partisan retribution and climate denier behaviour dressed in "wait for our better plan!" faux pragmatism.
Fiscally this presents significant risks that conservatives traditionally would take into account in decision making. What level of legal and settlement financial risk are being taken on by doing this? Billions of dollars have been committed to the cap & trade program - those companies will need to be made whole and it's easy to see a situation where the taxpayer is left to pay the piper.
