This is a wrong-headed act. This act will have a negative impact by encouraging the greenhouse gas emissions by companies that were reducing their emissions under the Cap and Trade policy, and by pulling much-needed funding derived from that policy, which supported energy conservation through the subsidies to people for various emission reducing purchases including energy-efficient doors and windows, electric cars, heat pumps etc.. Mr Ford does not understand the differences between Cap and Trade and Carbon Tax (unless he is pretending).
We need to reduce emissions through conservation and through improvements that should be made by corporations and people. The Cap and Trade and associated subsidies supporting conservation were effectively doing this. Throwing this out is a huge mistake for Ontario.
Now that the IPCC (a group with political oversight that is very conservative in its reporting) has revised the upper limit for global warming from 2 degrees to 1.5 degrees the immediate implementation of an effective strategy is crucial. Eliminating Cap and Trade without an equally effective alternative obviously sets Ontario back.
