As a resident of Ontario, I strongly support returning lands to the Greenbelt. They never should have been considered for removal in the first place, and especially not under such obviously corrupt circumstances-- the Ford government is on thin ice. Green spaces are essential to mitigating the inevitable effects of climate change, which include rising temperatures and flooding. Caring about "the environment" is not some lightweight liberal nonsense; it's a literal fight for our future.
I agree we need more housing, but the way housing is being built in the areas surrounding the Greenbelt is appalling--- the hideous cheek-by-jowl townhouse developments lining the highways are depressing and an impractical way to house many people. No consideration is being given to the fact that we are just adding to the climate change problem by building more car-dependent communities. Doug Ford recently said that the public "doesn't give two hoots" about the Greenbelt reversal. Well, hoot hoot hoot hoot!
