We need to protect what limited farmland we have left. Some of the most fertile land in all of Canada can be found along the southern shores of Lake Ontario. That fruit growing land is basically all housing units now. The orchards have been replaced with townhouses and shoddily constructed condos. There are floodplains and habitat that cannot just be "switched". It's absurd to even consider the notion that adding land in non sensitive areas can replace property that has a significant natural function. Once this land is gone and the developers have cashed their cheques the municipalities will be on the hook for flood damage and erosion damage. Common sense needs to prevail. We cannot eat pavement ons concrete
