The government needs to have meaningful engagements and consultation with First Nations when dealing with Greenbelt lands. It needs to legislate that at the 10-year Greenbelt Reviews, no more Greenbelt land can be removed or swapped but only land can be added. Habitat destruction of species at risk needs to be prohibited, we cannot allow this to happen and then just have perpetrators pay fines after the fact. Licensing of new aggregate and water extraction permits in the Greenbelt needs to be prohibited. All Prime Agricultural lands need to be protected in the Greenbelt through Conservation Easements, and we need to end the grandfathering of previous zoning for development applications within the Greenbelt. Lastly, give back all the powers to all the Conservation Authorities and consider allowing for Natural Burial Sites on Greenbelt lands which will protect the lands for perpetuity.
