this entire process of the book rd lands being put into the Greenbelt when they never should have been put in to begin with has been disheartening to watch. Not sure how it is even acceptable that they were changed from white belt to greenbelt without a discussion? I am not a landowner, however I live in the neighbourhood and I drive down book road from Southcote to Shaver on a daily basis. I have two children who I am raising here in Ancaster and it saddens me to see what is happening to the area.
Book road has become too busy for land owners to call this a quiet rural road, and yet the lands and homes are too run down to be either farmed or even enjoyable to look at. Not to mention all of the new retail stores that went up (Walmart plaza) and the new retail shops on garner that are being finished off as we speak. For the last few years this portion of Ancaster has felt "unfinished" and run down" it would be a dream to see newer homes that are able to provide comfortable housing sizes for growing families as opposed to the new built stacked townhomes on garner that can not even fit a young family of 3!! this community is suffering and those lands should be put to better use instead of acreage being wasted because it is not being farmed properly. This community needs more desirable homes for families. My biggest fear is that I raise my children here, but then when the time comes for them to buy their own homes, they will have to leave Ancaster and go to the outskirts just so they can have a decent home with a backyard. I don't think any parents in the Ancaster community want to see their children living in condos downtown Hamilton. Families would prefer to keep their money and their children here in Ancaster! Let's build the housing to make that happen.
