Ignoring the global climate crisis by removing Ontario's climate policy is a mistake. Canceling the cap and trade program will set Ontario behind the rest of the world rather than positioning us as leaders. The best scientists and economists agree that the environmental crisis we face on earth is the largest risk we face and if ignored will be catastrophic. Rather than removing targets for emission reduction and moving backward with the construction of renewable energy resources Ontario should be developing a comprehensive climate plan to address these issue. The recent Nobel Peace Prize winner in economics said this "The policies are lagging very, very far — miles, miles, miles behind the science and what needs to be done”. Although this refers to the policy in the United States, Ontario is not much further ahead. Addressing this policy should not be seen as costly but rather as an opportunity for innovation, and the creation of jobs. Set emission targets, put a price on carbon and invest in renewable energy solutions! Make Ontario a leader in addressing environmental issues.
