I would have hoped that this proposed legislation (to cancel cap-and-trade) has been developed after considered review of all of the available options and the decision has been taken on the basis that there are better alternatives. However, the approach appears to have been a facile delivery on a campaign promise and that no such review has been taken. Otherwise, I am sure that the Ford government would have presented their case to the people of Ontario and moved rapidly to implement their preferred approach to mitigate against the effects of anthropomorphic climate change. As a citizen of Ontario, I expect the Ford government to address the severity of probable impact of climate change (as described in great detail in the recent IPCC report) in a rational manner. To simply cancel the principle methods of encouraging reduction in CO2 emissions (cap-and-trade, responsible carbon pricing, support for 'green' economy and industry) without having a clearly defined plan is foolhardy in the extreme.
