I am eager to see a more comprehensive climate change plan consultation process through the ministers office.
While I agree that the cap and trade program has its flaws and is not the perfect plan on its own to address climate change, we also must stay vigilant as a province to the fact that we only have limited time to make significant changes to our GHG emissions. The UN has called on Canada to cut our emissions in half.
I am an Ontario youth who cares deeply about creative and innovative solutions to climate change that create meaningful work and economic prospertity for my peers while also protecting the next generations ability to live on this planet (the basic human right).
There are many others like me in Ontario, and I implore the Minister and ministry of environment to tap into the passions and knowledge of indigenous people, youth, and other Ontario citizens in the creation of this new plan. We have so many solutions. Help us get rid of the bureaucracy that stands in the way of innovation, help us bring our economically beneficial and community oriented solutions to Ontario and to the world!
It is your responsibility to consult and support your citizens in climate mitigation and adaptation, it is our responsibility to heed the call. Be the government to stand up to the bully free trade agreements and corporate interests that are currently preventing climate change solutions. Be the government to fulfill the 1992 Rio declaration and bring youth in this province to the table to decide on our future!
