I am writing to express my concerns regarding the proposal to transport Toronto's garbage to Dresden. One of the most pressing issues with this plan is the potential for polluting the aquifer, which is a vital source of fresh water for our community and the surrounding ecosystems. Landfills, especially those that handle waste from large metropolitan areas like Toronto, are known to leach contaminants into the groundwater. The risk of such pollution not only compromises the quality of our drinking water but also poses significant health risks to our residents and threatens the local wildlife that depend on this aquifer.

Furthermore, the proximity of the proposed landfill site to residential areas is highly concerning. There are well-established guidelines and regulations that dictate the minimum distance between landfills and living spaces, primarily to safeguard communities from the associated nuisances and health hazards, such as foul odors, increased vermin activity, and potential air and water pollution. Introducing a landfill within close range of Dresden’s residential zones disregards these protective measures and undermines the well-being and quality of life of our citizens.

Lastly, Dresden's infrastructure, including its small community roads and bridges, is not designed to accommodate the heavy load and constant traffic of trucks required to transport Toronto's garbage. Running these vehicles 24 hours a day would not only lead to significant wear and tear on our roads and bridges but also raise safety concerns for our residents. The noise pollution and increased risk of accidents would disrupt the peace and tranquility of our community, fundamentally altering the character of Dresden and placing undue strain on our local resources and emergency services.

I strongly urge you to reconsider the decision to bring Toronto's garbage to Dresden, taking into account the environmental, health, and infrastructural implications such a move would entail. It is crucial that we explore alternative solutions that are sustainable and do not compromise the well-being of our communities.
