"The government is seeking feedback on proposed amendments to the Official Plan Adjustments Act, 2023 to retroactively reinstate municipally requested modifications to official plans for the cities of Barrie, Belleville, Guelph, Hamilton, Ottawa and Peterborough, Wellington County and the regions of Niagara, Peel, Halton, York and Waterloo." Is an incredibly misleading summary for what this bill proposes to do.
There is no mention of how the government intends to once again undermine the public consultation processes and the environmental assessments that are so desperately needed to ensure sustainable growth for this province and its communities. I support infrastructure and development in the province as it is needed to meet the demands of our growing population, but i have yet to see the Ford government look for a way to do this responsibly, rather they encourage irresponsible urban sprawl and a reliance on automobiles. The government would rather push forward on highway projects that are routinely fought against by the public, threaten our food security, threaten biodiversity, do not alleviate traffic congestion as well as cost the taxpayers billions; billions that would better suited to fund healthcare and social services (which this government loves to defund).

Furthermore, the long title of Bill 162, is "An Act to enact the Protecting Against Carbon Taxes Act", the government has been fighting the carbon tax for years and this is another way they are trying to make carbon pricing schemes harder to implement.

Bill 162 feels scarily similar to the rhetoric of Bill 23, in that it supports highway building, urban sprawl and lack of environmental protections. The government is creating a lock in scenario for car usage and highways, that if implemented would take years to undo the damage.

Bill 162 is reckless and ill-advised, and i do not support it
