I am very disturbed about the recent move to buy farmland for development. This goes against the ROP that was agreed upon less than two years ago. It was a progressive plan, which looked to the future of our environment and wellness of our citizens. Where will food be grown if good farmland is paved over?
It makes no sense.
The people of the region did not know about this land grab until the farmers began to talk about being approached to sell. Why did we not know that this was being done until after the deadline to comment. Thank you for extending the deadline.
Arable land does not just appear out of nowhere. We have already encroached on it, in times when we couldn't/refused to see the long-term consequences. But now we all know that the future of the planet depends on changing the dominant worldview from accumulation and growth to one which considers the environment (land, air and water) and wellness of people. Perpetual growth is just not possible. First nations people think to seven generations ahead, and we settlers would to well to do so too.
